... bitter sweet sixteen ...

Just been to see the film sweet sixteen at the Richmond Film House.

The was about the life of a boy, Liam, leading up to his 16th birthday. His mother was in jail for drug dealing. She had taken the blame for her boyfriend who was the main dealer. Liam wants to keep his mother away from the boyfriend when she comes out.

The film is mostly unsentimental as it shows Liam's attempt to find money to buy a caravan to get his mother out of the grips of her boyfriend. He upsets the local 'Mister Big' and in doing so he wrecks his friendship with his best friend, Pinball. His sister, Chantel, tries to keep him straight and dispairs as his life starts to unravel.

There are a number of good dramatic scenes and a lot of black humour, reminicent of 'Trainspotting'.
