... Clivedon and Lady Astor ...
I visited Clivedon House on Sunday. The property is one of the best preserved country houses. It is located about 25 miles west of London on the Thames. It has lovely grounds and a long walk down to the river - 174 steps down and 174 steps up arghh

Unfortunately my digital camera decided to play up and so most of the images are unuseable.
An interesting globe.
The house was the home of Lady Astor, Britain's first woman Memper of Parliament.
Painting of Lady Astor She was a stunner.
Some of Lady Astor's quotes including '
I married beneath me. All women do.'
some of her arguments with Churchill
After one hot and heavy Parliamentary session, Lady Astor said to Churchill,
"Winston, if you were my husband I would poison your coffee."
"If you were my wife, Madam," said he suavely, "I would surely drink it."
Lady Astor was giving a costume ball and Winston Churchill asked her what disguise she would recommend for him. She said, "Why don't you come sober, Mr. Prime Minister?"
Can anyone give me references to her political career?
